Welcome to autumn! It's dark earlier, it's getting chillier outside, the chances of getting in dry across your driveway are almost zero. High time, then, for a glass of comfort after a long working day. In this blog, we serve you some of our most popular whiskies, each with a very distinct flavour profile.
Very spicy: Michter's 10 Year Old Rye
Michters released a number of these bottlings, each at a different natural cask strength. The casks are filled at 103 proof, which is lower than the industry standard. Michter's does this because it leads to a smoother, richer whiskey, even though it costs them more for the casks and storage. A batch at Michters is a maximum of 24 barrels, so small batch is really small. This rye is full of spicy rye balanced with the sweetness of toffee and vanilla.
Right from the start, you will find quite strong spicy notes in this product. You will notice these flavours immediately and determine your first impression. The woody flavours are quite present, but do not dominate. They help determine the flavour, profile and character of this drink, but are less decisive than any strong notes. Fruity hints are noticeable, but these flavours are only slightly present. They add extra character and depth to this drink, without really pushing it in any particular direction.
Very spicy: GlenDronach 18 year old
Glendronach 18y is a whisky from Scotland by the Glendronach brand. It falls within the whisky group under the Single Malt category. This whisky comes from the Highland region. To mark the 10th anniversary of the first Spice Tree, John Glaser offers a revisited version of this now legendary Blended Malt. The single malts for this recipe are older than those in the original version. In addition, John has also used more sherry casks to drive the spicy character to the top.

Above-average briny: Port Askaig Cask Strength
Port Askaig is not a distillery, but a place. It is the place where, on the north-east coast of Islay, the ferry to Jura leaves, and where the distilleries of Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila are located.
No more than 60 casks will be used for this Cask Strength. Each future batch will be equally limited each time, and will carry a unique code. The bottle will also indicate each time which casks were used. For this edition, #01-2023, that is 25% first-fill toasted bourbon casks and 75% refill Hogsheads of American oak.

Above-average briny: Waterford Woodbrook 1.1 Peated
Waterford, meanwhile, is no newcomer to the Irish whisky landscape. A brand with a range of different bottlings, which ensures that every whisky lover can find a bottle to his liking except the peatheads among us. At least until recently, because Waterford recently released the Fenniscourt 1.1 at 38 ppm and the slightly stronger-turfed Ballybannon 1.1 at 47 ppm. These are now reinforced with the launch of Lacken 1.1 at 57 ppm and finally Woodbrook 1.1 at 74 ppm. As always, bottled at 50% ABV.

Mister Peat does not keep his cards to himself. On the contrary, he loudly proclaims his peated profile. Marketing • IT • Klantenservice
I've known Broekmans since I graduated in 2006 and thanks to Jan I've come to know the passion for spirits. I dedicate myself every day to the webshop, customer service and all the IT involved. In my spare time, besides whiskey, I can also really enjoy rum, but just as much as a gin tonic or a simple bellini. In the words of Martien Meiland, if there's no alcohol in it, don't call me!
