DOW is al meer dan twee eeuwen een klinkende naam in de wereld van de Porto. Meerdere generaties van de Symington familie werkten op Quinta do Bomfim en Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, de twee wijngaarden van het huis. Het kenmerk van DOW porto's is de droge finish van al hun wijnen. Het oorsprongsverhaal van DOW is het tegenovergestelde van vele andere portomerken.
