I Sodi di San Niccolò is Castellare di Castellina's flagship wine, a Toscana IGT from Tuscany presented here in a 1.5-litre magnum. The larger format suits a wine of this stature: structured, deeply rooted in its place of origin and made with a clear gastronomic purpose.The 2019 vintage is made from 85% Sangioveto, Castellare's local name for Sangiovese, with 15% Malvasia Nera. It is therefore a Tuscan blend built entirely on native grape varieties. The name refers to the hard, steep soils known locally as sodi and to the church of San Niccolò on the estate. The vineyards lie around Castellina in Chianti, on calcareous clay-loam soils at roughly 430 to 442 metres above sea level.
Everything about the production points to a wine made with patience: hand-harvested grapes in early October, selection, separate fermentation of the two varieties, extended skin contact and around 30 months in barriques, two thirds of them new. The result is a dry red wine with ripe fruit, firm structure, oak influence and the fresh line associated with Sangioveto.

About CASTELLARE DI CASTELLINA
Castellare di Castellina is a winery from the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, Italy. Since its founding in the 1970s, the estate has focused on producing quality wines based mainly on indigenous grape varieties, with Sangiovese as a major pillar. The vineyard covers approximately 80 hectares of vineyards that stretch over hilly terrain near the village of Castellina in Chianti. The location of the vineyards, at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters, and the soil of limestone and clay contribute to the characteristic wines that come from here. Castellare di Castellina is especially known for its traditional style, with minimal use of international grape varieties and a focus on local varieties for authentic Chianti Classico wines. The range includes not only Chianti Classico but also riservas and some special cuvees, each with its own character, but always true to the terroir and Tuscan tradition. The winery operates with respect for nature and values biodiversity highly, which is evident, among other things, from the birds on the labels that symbolize environmentally friendly viticulture.
