Château de Rayne Vigneau 2022 in magnum is a sweet white Sauternes with real pedigree: the estate's grand vin and a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. The 1.5-litre format is a bottle size rather than a separate cuvée, giving the wine extra presence at the table.It comes from Bommes in the Sauternes appellation, where autumn morning mists from the nearby Ciron can encourage the development of noble rot. The 2022 blend is 73% sémillon, 24% sauvignon blanc and 3% muscadelle. Grapes are picked in successive selective passes, taking only those with the right level of concentration.
For this vintage, the wine spent 18 months in oak, with 30% new wood. With around 150 grams of residual sugar per litre, this is clearly a luscious Sauternes, yet the tasting notes repeatedly point to freshness, acidity and fine bitters that give shape to the sweetness.

Château de Rayne Vigneau is a historic wine producer from the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux region, France. The estate is located in the commune of Bommes and owes its name to its former owner, the marquis de Rayne, who further developed the domaine in the 19th century. The vineyards of Château de Rayne Vigneau stretch over a characteristic ridge overlooking the Ciron and Garonne rivers, a key location for the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) that is essential for authentic Sauternes. In 1855, Château de Rayne Vigneau was officially recognized as Premier Grand Cru Classé in the renowned classification of Bordeaux wines, a status that is still held today.
