Averna is an Italian amaro, originating from Siciliâ. The brand was developed in the mid-19th century and is now owned by the international beverage group Gruppo Campari. Averna is traditionally made according to a secret family and herbal recipe and is characterized by a distinctive bittersweet profile with spicy and citrus notes. Since its origin, Averna has been known within Italy as a digestif, often served neat after meals, but also popular in cocktails where its complex flavor comes into its own. Production still takes place in Siciliâ, keeping Averna closely connected to its regional heritage.
