This Italian brand has its origins in 1833, when Vincenzo Florio founded the eponymous winery in the region around Marsala on the west coast of the island. Marsala wine owes its special character to a combination of indigenous grape varieties such as Grillo, Catarratto, and Inzolia, together with a unique aging method in which wine is fortified and then rests in wooden barrels. Florio has distinguished itself since the nineteenth century by a continual focus on quality and a clearly recognizable house style, with which they produce a wide range of Marsala wines, ranging from sweet to dry and from young examples to long-aged variants.
