Product info about Campbeltown Loch 2026
Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a blended malt with a strong sense of place. It is made exclusively from single malts and brings together whisky from the active Campbeltown distilleries: Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle. In that sense, it feels less like a standard blend and more like a compact introduction to Campbeltown in one bottle. The town of Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula, has a rich whisky history and today produces five different single malts: Hazelburn, Longrow and Springbank at Springbank, Glen Scotia at Glen Scotia, and Kilkerran at Glengyle. Campbeltown Loch includes malt from each of these five names, giving it a genuine regional identity.
Maturation in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks gives the whisky its generous, layered style. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is exactly the kind of bottle we enjoy introducing to customers who want to explore Campbeltown without choosing one single distillery straight away.
Bottled at 46%, it has enough presence to satisfy serious whisky drinkers, while its much-loved and award-winning reputation says a lot about how well it performs once people discover it.

About CAMPBELTOWN LOCH
Springbank Distillery was founded in 1828 on the site where ancestor Archibald Mitchell was already using an illegal boiler at the time. It would grow over the years to become one of the most popular distilleries for whisky lovers. Springbank was also one of only two distilleries to survive the crash of the 1930s after Campbeltown's heyday as the capital of the whisky world in the late 19th century - more than 30 other distilleries had to close in Campbeltown during that period. Three different single malts are produced at Springbank. Hazelburn (made since 1997) is unturped and is distilled three times. Longrow is heavily-turfed and is distilled twice and finally Springbank itself is distilled 2.5 times and is medium-turfed. At Glengyle, its youngest brother, a small amount of single malt has been distilled since 2004, marketed under the brand name Kilkerran. Cadenhead is one of Scotland's oldest independent bottlers, founded in 1842 and joined J&A Mitchell in 1969. They are known for their quirky independent bottlings, of which the Original Collection is the most famous range.
The other distillery currently operating in Campbeltown is Glen Scotia. It also survived the crash of the 1930s, but does not belong to J&A Mitchell & Co. It does matter for the Campbeltown Loch blended malt, as it consists of the 5 different single malts produced in Campbeltown: Springbank, Hazelburn, Longrow, Kilkerran and, consequently, Glen Scotia.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of whisky is Campbeltown Loch 2026?
Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a blended malt whisky .
Blended malt whisky is a blend of exclusively malt whiskies sourced from different distilleries. The major difference from "regular" blended whisky is that blended malts do not use grain whisky.
Although not common, Compass Box's trendy Blended Malt Whiskies might ring a bell. They do not call themselves "blenders", but "whiskymakers" and they select the best whiskies from the best distilleries for their unique blends.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a no age statement whisky (NAS)?
Yes, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a no age statement (NAS) whisky. But what exactly does that mean?
According to the rules, when an age is stated on the bottle, it must always be the youngest whisky in the blend and not the age that is the most represented percentage-wise in the blend. A producer will therefore consciously choose not to state an age on his bottle in two cases: when an old whisky is blended with a small proportion of younger whisky, or when young whisky is blended with a proportion of older whisky. In the first case, he does not want to put a young age on his bottle if his blend contains mainly older whisky, and in the second case, from a marketing point of view it is more interesting to go out with that particle of older whisky.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a single cask whisky?
No, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is not a single cask whisky.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a whisky at cask strength?
No, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is not whisky at cask strength.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 suitable to give as a gift?
Although this Campbeltown Loch 2026 is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Campbeltown Loch 2026 might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a popular whisky?
Absolutely! Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a whisky that is currently included in our Top 100. This top contains the 100 products that were sold most often in our shops over the past 12 months, which is a good indicator of the product's stable popularity over a longer period of time.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 een goede keuze voor mij?
This Campbeltown Loch 2026 can be a whisky that suits you if you like a whisky with a spicy character. Indeed, this spiciness is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.
However, we recommend that you also check out the rest of the flavour profile, as it is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a tarred whisky?
On its own, yes, but Campbeltown Loch 2026 is one whisky in which the smokiness is only very slightly present in the flavour profile. So you will find some peatiness in it, but it is balanced with the rest and does not take over.
Peat is a typical flavour associated with a particular type of whisky. It is a flavour you have to (learn to) love. A whisky like this one, which is only mildly peated, is a great stepping stone to get acquainted with this flavour type.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a spicy whisky?
Yes, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a whisky with a fairly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.
The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.
- In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
- With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
- Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 a fruity whisky?
Yes, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a whisky with a moderately fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.
- Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
- Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Campbeltown Loch 2026 pure or with ice?
Whether you drink this Campbeltown Loch 2026 whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.
Does Campbeltown Loch 2026 have a high alcohol content?
The alcohol content of this Campbeltown Loch 2026 is higher than what you would expect from an average whisky expect. While not extremely exceptional, a whisky of around 46% is somewhat rarer anyway. Most whisky is usually closer to 40%.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 an independent bottling?
No, Campbeltown Loch 2026 is an official bottling of Campbeltown Loch.
Is Campbeltown Loch 2026 suitable for an Irish Coffee?
To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Campbeltown Loch 2026 is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.
Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?
Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.
To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.
You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
