Product info about Blair Athol 2010 13y
Blair Athol 2010 13y is a Highland single malt bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd as part of Berry's Own Selection. Berry Bros & Rudd has been active in the drinks trade since 1698, and its single cask releases continue a long house tradition of selecting spirits from across Scotland's whisky regions. This Blair Athol was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2023 at 13 years of age. The distillery sits just south of Pitlochry in Perthshire, at what is described as the gateway to the Highlands, and with a starting date of 1798 it belongs to the older names in Scottish whisky.
Within the Drankenshop Broekmans range, this release stands out through its very focused nature: one single cask, 265 bottles, and a finish in a Sauternes cask. Bottled at 56.4%, it keeps a strong, direct presence, while the tasting notes point towards cooked orchard fruit, stone fruit sweetness, vanilla and spice.
With only the last bottles remaining, it is the kind of independent bottling that captures a specific vintage and cask rather than a broad house style.
The nose opens with spice, cooked apple and warm apricot, followed by softer sweet aromas of mango, peach and vanilla.
On the palate, apricot jam gives a generous fruity note, balanced by green apple and marzipan. The finish is long, with spice and fruit continuing through to the end.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of whisky is Blair Athol 2010 13y?
Blair Athol 2010 13y is a single malt whisky.
The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.
Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y a no age statement whisky (NAS)?
No, Blair Athol 2010 13y is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y a single cask whisky?
Yes, Blair Athol 2010 13y is a single cask whisky. That makes this spirit unique of its kind, because because it only came from one cask and was not blended with other casks, only the other bottles from the same cask are exactly the same.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y a whisky at cask strength?
No, Blair Athol 2010 13y is not whisky at cask strength.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y suitable to give as a gift?
Although this Blair Athol 2010 13y is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Blair Athol 2010 13y might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.
Do you drink Blair Athol 2010 13y pure or with ice?
Whether you drink this Blair Athol 2010 13y whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.
Does Blair Athol 2010 13y have a high alcohol content?
Whisky of more than 52% is rather rare. Often, such a high alcohol content is due to the fact that it is a cask strength whisky (a whisky cask strength): the whisky in that case is not diluted before bottling so it goes into the bottle at a higher alcohol content. Whisky with a high alcohol content often benefits from a few drops of water to release the aromas and make the alcohol less predominant in the glass, and in itself is also fine for use in stronger cocktails.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y an independent bottling?
Blair Athol 2010 13y is a whisky of the Blair Athol brand bottled by the independent bottler Berry Bros. That makes this bottle an independent bottling.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y suitable for an Irish Coffee?
To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Blair Athol 2010 13y is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.
Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.
Is Blair Athol 2010 13y a biological whisky?

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?
Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.
To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.
You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
