Flavour notes

The aroma is bright and fruit-led, opening with ripe pear, white peach and pineapple. Delicate acacia notes, honey, a hint of malt and vanilla-like sweetness round out the first impression.

On the palate it stays soft and delicate. Golden Delicious apple, Williams pear and runny honey come through clearly, followed by creamier touches of vanilla and coconut. Almond and a fresh note of lime peel add extra definition.

The finish is gentle and lingering. Fruit and honey gradually fade into fresh hazelnut, a light bitterness, liquorice and a clean malty note with a final trace of vanilla.

Product info about Benriach The 10 + Glass

Benriach The 10 + Glas presents a 10-year-old Speyside single malt together with a tasting glass, giving this edition a little extra presence beyond the bottle itself. It is a Scottish whisky from Benriach at 43%, built around a lively fruit-driven style with gentle sweetness and a touch of spice.

The charm here lies in the way ripe fruit, delicate floral notes and soft vanilla-like sweetness come together without becoming heavy. A light woody influence adds shape in the background, while the spiced side gives the whisky a little more definition. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Speyside single malt we would introduce to someone looking for flavour and character in a smooth, approachable form.

The 10-year age statement reflects its time in cask and helps give the whisky its rounded feel. With the included glass, this giftpack invites a more attentive tasting of Benriach's fruity, floral and gently spiced character.

About BENRIACH

The Spey Valley, where the BenRiach distillery was built in 1898, is home to many of Scotland's finest whiskies, but the BenRiach has its own unique character - tied to the specific methods and skills of the BenRiach men who make the whisky, the ingrediënts they use, the unique copper stills and high quality casks selected for maturation. BenRiach offers yet another special difference that sets them apart from the other Spey Valley distilleries, namely the traditional floor malting with their special pagoda style kilns. Here the peated barley malt is made, allowing the distillery to succeed in giving the defining peat aroma to some of their special bottlings.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of whisky is Benriach The 10 + Glass?

Benriach The 10 + Glass is a single malt whisky.

The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.

Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a no age statement whisky (NAS)?

No, Benriach The 10 + Glass is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a single cask whisky?

No, Benriach The 10 + Glass is not a single cask whisky.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a whisky at cask strength?

No, Benriach The 10 + Glass is not whisky at cask strength.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass suitable to give as a gift?

Yes, Benriach The 10 + Glass is perfect for giving as gifts. Gift packs like these are a popular choice all year round for those looking for a great gift. Around Father's Day and Christmas, we find that the popularity of these unique gift packs increases even further, and it is also typically around this time that many brands come out with new or updated gift packs.

Keep in mind that brands usually put together their giftpacks with their most accessible and most popular spirits, so they are often not the best choice for more experienced whisky-drinkers.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass een goede keuze voor mij?

This Benriach The 10 + Glass can be a whisky that suits you if you like a whisky with a spicy character. Indeed, this spiciness is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also check out the rest of the flavour profile, as it is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a tarred whisky?

No, there is no peat in the flavour profile in this Benriach The 10 + Glass whisky . The absence of any smokiness therefore makes it suitable for those who do not like a peat flavour.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a spicy whisky?

Yes, Benriach The 10 + Glass is a whisky with a fairly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a fruity whisky?

On its own, yes, but Benriach The 10 + Glass is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Benriach The 10 + Glass pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Benriach The 10 + Glass whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Benriach The 10 + Glass have a high alcohol content?

This whisky from Benriach has a normal alcohol content. Within whisky alcohol levels of up to 43% are most common.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass an independent bottling?

No, Benriach The 10 + Glass is an official bottling of Benriach.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass suitable for an Irish Coffee?

To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Benriach The 10 + Glass is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.

Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Benriach The 10 + Glass a biological whisky?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Benriach The 10 + Glass whisky from Benriach is not an organic product.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?

Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.

To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.

You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
