Product info about Arran Signature #4 Sherry
Arran Signature #4 Sherry brings the Signature Series to a close with a clear focus on sherry maturation. This fourth and final edition, introduced as Sherry Serenade, was selected and signed by Distillery Manager Stewart Bowman. It feels very much like a purposeful release: a 9-year-old unpeated Arran shaped around richness, depth and the naturally fruity elegance of the spirit. Its foundation is full maturation in First Fill Oloroso Hogsheads, with Pedro Ximénez and Amontillado casks from warehouses 1 and 4 incorporated into the final composition. That layered sherry influence gives the whisky its gourmand side, while the 50% bottling strength keeps the presentation confident and expressive.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of limited single malt we like to explain rather than simply place on a shelf. With 13,971 bottles released and availability through allocation, Arran Signature #4 Sherry captures the closing chapter of a series built to show the versatility of Arran Single Malt.

About ARRAN
Lochranza Distillery can be found in the village of the same name in the north of the Isle of Arran. That's on the west coast of Scotland, a stone's throw from Glasgow. It's a popular weekend trip from Glasgow, because on Arran you'll find a sort of miniature version of Scotland. A short distance away (the road around the whole island is about 80 km in total) you'll find mountains, valleys, beautiful green meadows, beautiful beaches and everything that makes Scotland so enticing for foodies: fresh produce from the land and sea, and whisky, of course. The distillery's location among the mountains in the north of the island is unquestionably spectacular. So must have thought the eagles who were already living there when the distillery was built. They have since become part of the identity of Arran whisky and you can observe them on site to your heart's content.
The whisky made by Lochranza is much loved. It is characterised by a distinctly fruity character that appeals to novice tasters and experienced whisky lovers alike. The basic range includes whiskies that can now be called modern classics such as the 10yo, the Quarter Cask and the Sherry Cask. All of them are tasty, accessible and affordable whiskies of high quality, carefully blended from the casks aged in their warehouses. The Machrie Moor, the lightly peated version made at Lochranza, is also a favourite of many, but will no longer be produced from 2026, as the group has set up a second distillery in the south of the island making only peated whisky (Lagg Distillery).

Frequently asked questions
What kind of whisky is Arran Signature #4 Sherry?
Arran Signature #4 Sherry is a single malt whisky.
The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.
Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a no age statement whisky (NAS)?
No, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a single cask whisky?
No, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is not a single cask whisky.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a whisky at cask strength?
No, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is not whisky at cask strength.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry suitable to give as a gift?
Although this Arran Signature #4 Sherry is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Arran Signature #4 Sherry might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a popular whisky?
Absolutely! Arran Signature #4 Sherry is a whisky that is currently included in our Top 100. This top contains the 100 products that were sold most often in our shops over the past 12 months, which is a good indicator of the product's stable popularity over a longer period of time.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry een goede keuze voor mij?
This Arran Signature #4 Sherry can be a whisky that suits you if you like a whisky with a woody character. Indeed, this woodiness is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.
However, we recommend that you also check out the rest of the flavour profile, as this is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a tarred whisky?
No, there is no peat in the flavour profile in this Arran Signature #4 Sherry whisky . The absence of any smokiness therefore makes it suitable for those who do not like a peat flavour.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a spicy whisky?
Yes, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is a whisky with a fairly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.
The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.
- In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
- With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
- Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a fruity whisky?
Yes, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is a whisky with a moderately fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.
- Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
- Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Arran Signature #4 Sherry pure or with ice?
Whether you drink this Arran Signature #4 Sherry whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.
Does Arran Signature #4 Sherry have a high alcohol content?
Arran Signature #4 Sherry is not whisky for sissies. The alcohol content of this bottle is quite a bit above the 40% you usually whisky expect, so it's best to take into account that this one can come in solid.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry an independent bottling?
No, Arran Signature #4 Sherry is an official bottling of Arran.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry suitable for an Irish Coffee?
To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Arran Signature #4 Sherry is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.
Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.
Is Arran Signature #4 Sherry a biological whisky?
Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Arran Signature #4 Sherry whisky from Arran is not an organic product.
How do I get started on Scotch whisky?
Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.
To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.
You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
