Product info about Springbank Cv
Springbank CV is a Campbeltown single malt built around composition rather than a single age statement. It brings together different cask types and whiskies aged between 7 and 14 years, personally selected by Director of Production Frank McHardy and Distillery Manager Stuart Robertson. There is a playful side to the name as well. CV may stand for Curriculum Vitae, or perhaps Chairman's Vatting; even at Springbank, nobody seems too concerned about settling the matter. What matters more is the whisky in the glass: fruit-led, gently spiced, lightly floral and bottled at 46%.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we appreciate releases like this because they show Springbank through selection and house style rather than through a simple number on the label. With the last bottles now available, it has also become a more limited find.

About SPRINGBANK
Springbank's flagship is, of course, the single malt of the same name. Unique to the production process is the 2.5 times distillation. It is a complex process. There are three stills at Springbank. For Hazelburn, all three are used for 100% of the process. At Longrow, they only use two. For Springbank, after the first distillation, part of the low wines goes to the third kettle, another part to the second kettle; what is distilled in the second kettle then goes to the third kettle for a final distillation. Thus, one part is distilled three times, and one part twice, and from there comes to 2.5 times distilled. The process is more complicated than that, but this way you already have the basics of this unique single malt with you.
Springbank whisky has a base range of the 10yo, 15yo, 18yo, 21yo, 25yo and 30yo. Limited editions are released regularly, such as the 12yo at cask strength and the famous Local Barley range.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of whisky is Springbank Cv?
Springbank Cv is a single malt whisky.
The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.
Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.
Is Springbank Cv a no age statement whisky (NAS)?
Yes, Springbank Cv is a no age statement (NAS) whisky. But what exactly does that mean?
According to the rules, when an age is stated on the bottle, it must always be the youngest whisky in the blend and not the age that is the most represented percentage-wise in the blend. A producer will therefore consciously choose not to state an age on his bottle in two cases: when an old whisky is blended with a small proportion of younger whisky, or when young whisky is blended with a proportion of older whisky. In the first case, he does not want to put a young age on his bottle if his blend contains mainly older whisky, and in the second case, from a marketing point of view it is more interesting to go out with that particle of older whisky.
Is Springbank Cv a single cask whisky?
No, Springbank Cv is not a single cask whisky.
Is Springbank Cv a whisky at cask strength?
No, Springbank Cv is not whisky at cask strength.
Is Springbank Cv suitable to give as a gift?
Although this Springbank Cv is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Springbank Cv might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.
Is Springbank Cv een goede keuze voor mij?
This Springbank Cv can be a whisky that suits you if you like a whisky with a fruity character. Indeed, this fruitiness is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.
However, we recommend that you also look at the rest of the flavour profile, as it is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.
Is Springbank Cv a tarred whisky?
No, there is no peat in the flavour profile in this Springbank Cv whisky . The absence of any smokiness therefore makes it suitable for those who do not like a peat flavour.
Is Springbank Cv a spicy whisky?
On its own, yes, but this Springbank Cv is one whisky with only a slightly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky is not emphatic in the flavour profile, but it is there.
The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.
- In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
- With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
- Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Springbank Cv a fruity whisky?
Yes, Springbank Cv is a whisky with a moderately fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.
- Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
- Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Springbank Cv pure or with ice?
Whether you drink this Springbank Cv whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.
Does Springbank Cv have a high alcohol content?
The alcohol content of this Springbank Cv is higher than what you would expect from an average whisky expect. While not extremely exceptional, a whisky of around 46% is somewhat rarer anyway. Most whisky is usually closer to 40%.
Is Springbank Cv an independent bottling?
No, Springbank Cv is an official bottling of Springbank.
Is Springbank Cv suitable for an Irish Coffee?
To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Springbank Cv is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.
Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Can I buy Springbank Cv without deploying loyalty tokens?
Springbank Cv is one whisky which is part of our loyalty programme. That means you have to use loyalty tokens to buy this bottle. Without the necessary loyalty tokens, you cannot order this bottle from us, not even at an additional price or by contacting us by e-mail. On principle, we do not make any exceptions to our programme.
In the past, loyal Broekmans customers were often left out in the cold because bottles like this one were immediately bought up by bottle flippers. True fans and lovers of our products were therefore condemned to the much more expensive second-hand market. With this loyalty programme, every customer who consistently chooses Broekmans has the opportunity to build up a token balance, and with those accumulated credits they can then grant themselves access to unique and rare bottlings like this one.
Thus, as an whiskyenthusiast who consistently chooses Broekmans has more than an edge over anyone who is only concerned with capitalising on it rather than from a deep-seated passion.
How do I get started on Scotch whisky?
Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.
To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.
You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
