Tempo d'Angelus 2019 is an interesting chapter in the Château Angélus range. It is not the château's Grand Vin, nor Carillon d'Angelus, but a separate cuvée in its own right, with 2019 as the first vintage. In magnum format, the wine immediately feels made for the table: generous, distinctive and with a clear story behind it.The wine comes from the Angélus world of Saint-Émilion, while being released under the Bordeaux AOC appellation. Its blend is led by Merlot, with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from vineyards owned by Château Angélus, including plots on clay-limestone slopes with tuff and marl near Saint-Émilion. Vinification takes place in the Chai Carillon, a modern cellar created for this range of wines.
Tempo d'Angelus is shaped around approachability at a younger age than the house's grands vins, while still keeping the structure and Bordeaux depth one expects from this origin. For the 2019 vintage, part of the wine was aged in new oak and the remainder kept in stainless steel tanks, giving the ripe fruit and freshness plenty of room alongside a subtle oak influence.

Château Angélus is a winery from Saint-Émilion, in the Bordeaux region of France, best known for its red wines based on merlot and cabernet franc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 18th century and has been owned by the de Boüard de Laforest family for several generations. Château Angélus belongs to the Premier Grand Cru Classé A category of Saint-Émilion, a designation granted to only a select number of estates based on strict quality criteria.
