Flavour notes
Aromatic notes move from floral accents, cedar, pencil shavings and graphite into ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, plum and blueberry. Tasting notes also mention redcurrant jam, dried herbs, sage, menthol, forest floor, chocolate, tobacco, walnut, caramel and oak.On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with layers of dark fruit, fresh acidity and a clearly defined tannic frame. The tannins are firm but refined, with a fine-grained grip that gives the wine shape. The finish is persistent, carrying fruit, herbal detail and a mineral impression.

Product info about Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a Napa Valley red that shows why this St. Helena producer is so closely associated with Californian Cabernet. Despite the varietal name, the wine is built as a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux blend: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, with small additions of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The fruit comes from estate and grower vineyards across Napa Valley, including St. Helena, southern Napa Valley, Oak Knoll District and Stags Leap District. Joseph Phelps described 2018 as a cool, mild vintage, with a slower growing season and longer hang time. That extra time on the vine helped build flavour development and fruit quality while keeping the wine focused.
Eighteen months in French and American oak gave the wine further depth without taking attention away from its dark-fruited Cabernet core. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a serious Napa Cabernet for those who appreciate structure, ripe fruit, firm yet polished tannins and real ageing potential. Its strong reception among professional tasters underlines the standing of this 2018 release.
With only the last bottles remaining, this vintage now has an added sense of scarcity for anyone looking to cellar or serve a mature, structured Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon.
