Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2018 is a red wine from Mendoza, Argentina, but its real identity lies in one very specific place: the Mundus Bacillus Terrae parcel within Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary, Tupungato Alto. The grapes come from a small plot of around 1.4 hectares at approximately 1,390 metres altitude, on alluvial, calcareous soils with calcium carbonate and marine deposits. Even the name points back to the vineyard, referring to rhizobacteria in the soil.Made from 100% Malbec, the 2018 vintage was fermented partly in concrete eggs and partly in oak foudres, with a proportion of whole bunches, then aged for 18 months in French oak. The result is not presented as a broad, lush Malbec, but as a firm, high-acid, tannic wine with clear ageing potential.
