Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2018 is a naturally sweet white wine from Constantia in South Africa's Western Cape. Made from Muscat de Frontignan, it belongs to Klein Constantia's historic Vin de Constance cuvée. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a bottle that deserves a little explanation: its charm lies not simply in sweetness, but in the way sweetness is held together by freshness, concentration and place.The 2018 vintage developed through a long, slow growing season, with notably cool nights and a harvest that arrived later than usual. The grapes were picked in 21 separate passes between early February and mid-April. Earlier selections brought acidity, while later ones added greater ripeness and depth. That patient approach gives the final wine its sense of balance between sugar, acidity and flavour concentration.
After fermentation and blending, the wine spent three years maturing in a combination of new French oak barrels, a small proportion of acacia barrels and large foudres. The 50 cl bottle feels well matched to this concentrated style: a bottle to open thoughtfully with tarte tatin, crème brûlée, caramelised fruit or blue cheeses such as Roquefort and Stilton. As these are the last bottles, this particular vintage has an added sense of occasion in our range.

About KLEIN CONSTANTIA
Klein Constantia is a historic South African wine producer that traces its origins to the late 17th century at the foot of the Constantia Mountains, just south of Cape Town. The estate is especially known for its location on the old Constantia estates, where in the 18th and 19th centuries the renowned Constantia wines were produced and acclaimed worldwide. After several changes of ownership and a period of decline, Klein Constantia was rebuilt in the 20th century and repositioned as a leading wine estate in the region. The vineyards benefit from a moderate climate, a mix of granite-rich soils and the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, resulting in elegant wines with plenty of freshness. The assortment ranges from crisp Sauvignon Blancs and full-bodied Chardonnay to classic Bordeaux blends and sweet dessert wines, including the legendary Vin de Constance. In particular, this sweet wine has a special heritage as the successor to the historic Constantia wines that were once served at European courts.
