Flavour notes
Dark in colour and full-bodied, with black fruit at the centre of the aromatic profile. Blackberry and blackcurrant come through clearly, joined by floral notes, pepper, graphite and a gentle smoky nuance. There is also a light Rhône-like suggestion of olive and spice. On the palate it remains dry and structured, with firm but integrated tannins. The texture is described as softer and more velvety than a young classic Palmer, while the aromatic intensity unfolds gradually and carries into a long development on the finish.

Product info about Chateau Palmer Historical Xix Century 2014
Château Palmer Historical XIXth Century 2014 is not a conventional Margaux release, but a red Vin de France built around a historical idea. It refers to the 19th-century practice known as hermitagé, when Bordeaux wines were sometimes complemented with Rhône wine. In this modern version, the Palmer foundation remains Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Margaux, with a modest addition of Syrah from the northern Rhône.That small Rhône element changes the conversation without taking the wine away from its Bordeaux roots. The 2014 edition, often associated with lot L.20.14, sits outside the Margaux and Bordeaux appellations because of this blend, and that is part of its identity rather than a technical detail.
The 2014 vintage at Palmer followed an unsettled summer before warm, dry weather arrived from the end of August through September and the first half of October. Harvest took place from 22 September to 14 October. Palmer also describes 2014 as an important year for its biodynamic approach, with no sulphur added to the incoming harvest for the first time in the estate's modern history.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to explain rather than simply place on a shelf. Production is small, the wine is not made every year, and the concept gives Palmer a different voice: Bordeaux structure and depth, touched by the peppery, textural signature associated here with northern Rhône Syrah.
