Château Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2019 in magnum is the estate's red grand vin from Martillac, within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. As a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it already carries real Bordeaux pedigree, and the 1.5-litre bottle gives this 2019 vintage a format that suits its depth, structure and ageing potential.The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The fruit comes from vines averaging 48 years of age, rooted in the gravel plateau of Smith Haut Lafitte. The estate links this terroir to good drainage, deep rooting and the smoky, flinty, graphite-like nuances often associated with its red wines.
The cellar work is equally deliberate: whole grapes fermented in small wooden vats, manual pigeage, then 18 months in barriques, 60% of them new. According to the château, these barrels are made in its own cooperage, keeping the élevage closely tied to the estate's house style.

About SMITH HAUT LAFITTE
Smith Haut Lafitte is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 14th century, but the name Smith Haut Lafitte became known in the 18th century thanks to the Scottish merchant George Smith, who acquired the estate and linked his name to it. Today, the Château is owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have been managing it since 1990. Smith Haut Lafitte produces both red and white wines, with the reds generally made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the whites mainly from Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris.
