Flavour notes

The colour is intensely purple. Aromatically, it moves through red and black fruit: cherry, plum, blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry, with floral notes of violet and rose. Behind that come thyme, bay leaf and herbal accents, alongside graphite, chalk, wet earth and a faint smoky undertone.

On the palate it is dry, fresh and concentrated, medium to full in body. The fruit feels juicy, but the wine is held in line by bright acidity and fine yet powerful tannins. Its chalky texture is one of the defining features, adding grip and length to a firm, persistent, mineral finish.

Product info about Familia Zuccardi Funca Canal Uco Malbec 2019

Familia Zuccardi Canal Uco Malbec 2019 is a red wine from Paraje Altamira in Argentina's Valle de Uco, Mendoza. It comes from Finca Canal Uco, a vineyard at around 1,100 metres altitude and an important site for Zuccardi: it was the first vineyard the family planted in this village, on land that had previously been planted with apple trees.

The interest here lies in how directly the wine is shaped around its origin. The grapes were hand harvested with bunch selection, fermentation took place in concrete vats with native yeasts, and maturation also remained in concrete. For this vintage no oak ageing is mentioned, so the focus stays on the fruit, freshness and the stony, calcareous identity of the vineyard.

The 2019 vintage is described as fresh and dry, with below-average temperatures and a marked difference between day and night. That helps explain the wine's combination of ripe fruit, natural acidity, structured tannins and absence of overripeness. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Malbec for drinkers who want to explore Argentina through precision and place rather than oak influence.

This vintage received strong recognition from several international critics, including Robert Parker, James Suckling, Vinous, Tim Atkin and Descorchados. Still, its appeal is not about ratings alone. It is a vineyard-led expression of Paraje Altamira, built around clear fruit, chalky structure and mineral depth. With only the last bottles remaining, it is becoming a scarcer release in our selection.

About ZUCCARDI

Zuccardi is a winery from Argentina, located in the Mendoza region at the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountains. The winery was founded in the 1960s by engineer Alberto Zuccardi, who initially experimented with irrigation techniques. The family business quickly grew into one of the most recognizable names in the Argentine wine world, with a clear focus on innovation and quality. Today it is led by the third generation, with Sebastián Zuccardi as a leading winemaker. The range is broad and includes Malbec, the most famous grape of Argentina, as well as other varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and local specialties. The wines come from different parts of the Uco Valley, a region known for its unique terroir and high altitude, which provides distinguished, fresh, and elegant wines. Zuccardi has regularly received both national and international recognition for their pursuit of authentic wines that reflect the character of Argentina. The winery uses sustainable farming methods and continually invests in research into soil and climate to further improve their wines.
