Flavour notes
The aroma is initially restrained and develops with time in the glass. Notes of just-ripe mango, lemon verbena, warm lemon, hay, preserved citrus and white nectarine gradually come forward. On the palate it is concentrated and mouth-filling, with fresh acidity keeping the wine focused. Salted almond, subtle smoky minerality, citrus and stone-fruit tones add a savoury depth. The finish is long, precise and well defined.

Product info about Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc
Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc shows a more layered side of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Rather than focusing only on immediate aromatic brightness, Te Koko is shaped through barrel fermentation, indigenous yeasts and time on fine lees, giving this dry white wine a broader texture and a more savoury feel. The fruit comes from the Wairau Valley, from older vines grown on warm, free-draining gravel soils. Recent producer information mentions Motukawa, Widow's Block, Estate and Brook Street among the vineyard sources for Te Koko. French oak barrels, large wooden cuves, concrete and later stainless steel all play a role in building a style that is less about pure primary fruit and more about depth, tension and mouthfeel.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we like Te Koko because it opens up a different conversation about Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. It still speaks clearly of Marlborough, but with a richer texture, subtle savoury detail and a gastronomic edge. Cloudy Bay recommends serving it at 10 to 12°C, with pairings such as smoked salmon, sushi, dumplings, spiced dishes and pan-fried halloumi.
