Chateau Suduiraut 2020 is the grand vin of Suduiraut from Sauternes in Bordeaux, a white sweet wine with Premier Cru Classé status in the 1855 classification. For this vintage, the wine is made entirely from Sémillon, from grapes concentrated by noble rot. The harvest was carried out selectively in four separate passes between mid-September and early November, reflecting the careful work behind a wine of this style.The 2020 growing season was far from straightforward, with wet conditions early on, summer heat, and later periods that allowed botrytis to develop on selected parcels. That background helps explain the wine's combination of richness, sweetness and freshness. A final yield of 8.5 hectolitres per hectare points to a very concentrated selection.
Maturation took place in oak barrels, half new and half one-year-old, for 16 to 20 months depending on the wine's development. Suduiraut is a renowned winery from the Sauternes region in Bordeaux, France, that has dedicated itself for centuries to the production of high-quality dessert wines. The estate, fully named Château Suduiraut, is located in the heart of Sauternes, close to the famous Château d´Yquem. The vineyards of Suduiraut cover approximately 92 hectares, where especially Sëmillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are cultivated. In autumn, unique climatic conditions can result in the grapes being affected by the so-called noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which is essential for the character of Sauternes wines: concentrated, elegantly sweet, and rich in aromas of honey, apricot, and dried fruit. Suduiraut has a long history, going back to the 16th century, and the château has been owned by AXA Millësimes since 1992, a company focused on prominent wineries. The wines of Suduiraut are internationally renowned for their balance between intense sweetness, refined acids, and a long, complex finish. In addition to the Grand Vin, the winery also produces a second wine, Castelnau de Suduiraut, and occasionally small special cuvées.
