Chateau La Dominique 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Emilion Grand Cru and the grand vin of Château La Dominique. Its setting says a great deal about the wine: the estate lies in the north-west of Saint-Emilion, close to the edge of Pomerol, in a highly regarded part of the appellation.The 2020 vintage is led by Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and a small share of Cabernet Sauvignon in support. The grapes come from 25 hectares of vineyards on clay, limestone, gravel and sand over clay, and were harvested entirely by hand. Ageing lasted 14 months, mainly in barriques, with a small proportion also raised in vessels such as amphora and wine globe.
Its appeal lies in the meeting of ripe dark fruit, freshness and firm yet polished tannins. The available tasting notes point to a wine made with further bottle ageing in mind, with several drinking windows suggesting that its most complete phase begins from the middle of this decade onwards.
