Château Croix Mouton 2020 is a red Bordeaux Supérieur with Merlot very much at the centre of the wine. For this vintage the blend is 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn from vineyards in Lugon on the clay soils of l'Île du Carney, close to the Dordogne and on the edge of Fronsac. The result is a Bordeaux built around ripe, fleshy fruit, while keeping the fresh, approachable side associated with this wine.The estate belongs to Jean-Philippe Janoueix Domaines. For the 2020 vintage, the grapes were sorted before vinification, fermented in concrete and stainless-steel vats, then aged for a short period on fine lees, with or without wood influence. Rather than presenting itself as a heavy or heavily oaked wine, its appeal lies in the Merlot fruit, the supple texture and the clear Bordeaux Supérieur identity.
