Flavour notes

In the glass, Château Laroze 2020 shows a deep ruby to purple colour. The aroma is driven by dark fruit: cassis, black cherry, blackberry, mulberry, ripe dark berries and plum, with an occasional raspberry note. Behind the fruit come violet and lily, then spice, cardamom, liquorice, mocha, chocolate, cedar, light toast, cold smoke, graphite and subtle herbal touches of thyme or green pepper.

On the palate it is medium to full in body, with ripe dark fruit and fresh acidity giving the wine lift. The tannins are structured yet refined, at times velvety, at times slightly chalky in texture. The finish is long and persistent, returning to dark fruit, spice, liquorice, mocha, oak nuances and a mineral edge.

Product info about Chateau Laroze 2020

Château Laroze 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and the historic grand vin of the estate. Château Laroze has a winegrowing history reaching back to 1610, while the current estate was established in 1882. As a Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion, it belongs to a tradition where origin, structure and bottle development matter.

The 2020 blend is led by merlot, with a notably strong contribution from cabernet franc. That cabernet franc presence is an important part of the wine's identity, supported by cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and malbec. The vineyard lies at the foot of the slope, around 1.5 kilometres northwest of the village of Saint-Émilion, on soils described by the estate as siliceous over clay, linking finesse with structure.

The producer describes 2020 as a sunny vintage, with very good merlot and strong cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The grapes are hand-harvested, vinified in cement and stainless-steel vats, then aged for 16 months in barriques, vats and jars, with a significant share of new oak in the barrique ageing. It is a wine shaped not only by ripe fruit, but also by tannin, freshness and the ability to develop further in bottle.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, Château Laroze 2020 sits comfortably among the more serious Saint-Émilion wines for the table and the cellar. With only limited remaining bottles, it is especially relevant for those looking for a structured Bordeaux that can be opened with care now or kept for later. Serve around 16 to 18 °C, preferably after opening in advance, alongside beef, veal, game, duck or a dark chocolate dessert.

About CH LAROZE

Ch Laroze is a French wine producer from the Bordeaux region, more specifically from Saint-Émilion, one of the most famous wine regions of France. This producer is mainly known for its red wines which, classic for the area, are a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery, fully known as Château Laroze, has a long family history dating back to the 19th century and has been managed by the same family for generations. The vineyards lie on a unique subsoil of sand and clay, which is reflected in the character of the wines: soft, elegant, and sometimes with a subtle spiciness. The vines often have a respectable age, which contributes to the complexity in the final wine. Ch Laroze follows traditional production methods combined with modern insights, in order to consistently deliver wines that are typical for their origin. The wines from this house are recognizable by their smooth structure and good balance, which makes them suitable for drinking young but also interesting for ageing. Ch Laroze enjoys a solid reputation within Saint-Émilion and is regularly reviewed positively in wine reviews worldwide.
