Flavour notes
The colour is very dark red, close to black, with bluish reflections. Aromatically it is concentrated and layered, bringing together red and black fruit, cassis, black cherry, plum, blackberry and blueberry, followed by violet, star anise, liquorice, tobacco leaf, pepper, graphite, flinty notes and a light smokiness.On the palate it is full and powerful, with ripe black fruit, fresh acidity and firm yet ripe tannins. Barrel ageing adds cedar, cocoa, coffee, sandalwood and vanilla accents, while the fruit and mineral tension remain central. The finish is long, spicy and firmly structured.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2020 is the red grand vin of the estate in Martillac, within Pessac-Léognan. This 37.5 cl half bottle contains the same wine as the standard bottle, in a format that makes sense when you want to serve a serious Bordeaux with dinner without opening a full bottle.The 2020 vintage is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The vines average 48 years of age and grow on a continuous plateau of Günz gravel, a detail that helps explain the wine's structured, mineral and deeply concentrated style.
In the cellar, the approach is careful rather than heavy-handed. Whole berries were fermented in small wooden vats, with gentle extraction by manual pigeage. The wine then spent 18 months in barrel, 60% of which was new wood from the château's own cooperage. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a serious, age-worthy red Bordeaux with power, freshness and the stony Graves character clearly woven into the wine.

About SMITH HAUT LAFITTE
Smith Haut Lafitte is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 14th century, but the name Smith Haut Lafitte became known in the 18th century thanks to the Scottish merchant George Smith, who acquired the estate and linked his name to it. Today, the Château is owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have been managing it since 1990. Smith Haut Lafitte produces both red and white wines, with the reds generally made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the whites mainly from Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris.
