Chateau Leoville Barton 2020 Demi is the 37.5 cl half bottle of the grand vin from Château Léoville Barton in Saint-Julien, Médoc. This is firmly in Left Bank Bordeaux territory, led by Cabernet Sauvignon: the 2020 blend is 85.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14.5% Merlot. Its Deuxième Grand Cru Classé status from the 1855 classification gives it historical weight, but the wine itself is defined by dark fruit, structure and long ageing potential.At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to present when someone is looking for a serious Saint-Julien in a smaller format. The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted carefully and vinified by parcel in temperature-controlled wooden vats. Ageing took place for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of them new, adding cedar, toast and spice around a Cabernet-driven core.
The 2020 vintage received broad recognition from respected wine publications and is considered a wine for cellaring. When opened young, decanting is a sensible choice, as the wine can show firm tannic power in its early years. Served around 17 to 18 °C, it sits naturally alongside game, classic meat dishes, French cuisine and cheese. With only the last half bottles available, this is a particularly attractive way to approach a grand Saint-Julien without opening a full bottle.
