Cantine Sardus Pater Is Arenas Carignano del Sulcis Riserva 2020 is a Sardinian red wine with a strong sense of place. The name Is Arenas means the sands in Sardinian, referring to the sandy soils of Sant'Antioco, the island in the south-west of Sardinia where these Carignano grapes are grown.The wine is made entirely from Carignano grown at sea level. The vines are trained as free-standing alberello, planted on their own roots, and are described by the producer as being around 80 years old on average. That gives this Riserva a very specific identity: old Carignano vines on sand, from an area that Cantine Sardus Pater has made central to its work.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while the malolactic fermentation is completed in barriques. The wine then matures for 12 months in Allier oak barriques, followed by another 12 months in bottle. The result remains rooted in ripe fruit and Mediterranean herbal notes, with added structure from the ageing.

Sardus Pater is a winery from the south of Sardinia, Italy, with a strong regional identity that dates back to the founding of the coöperative in 1949.
