Cantine Sardus Pater Foras Cannonau di Sardegna 2022 is a Sardinian red wine with a name that says more than it first appears. Foras means outsider or stranger in Sardinian, a reference to the fact that Sardus Pater is based on Sant'Antioco, while the Cannonau grapes for this wine come from elsewhere on Sardinia.The wine is bottled under the Cannonau di Sardegna DOC and is made from Cannonau. Cantine Sardus Pater is a cooperative founded in 1949, working with grapes from its member growers. For this cuvée, the producer refers to vineyards at sea level, soils with pebbles and vines averaging around twenty years of age. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with controlled-temperature skin contact, followed by full malolactic fermentation and several months of bottle ageing.
What stands out is the warm, dry Sardinian style: ripe fruit, Mediterranean herb character and a full mouthfeel, without any stated oak ageing taking centre stage. Sardus Pater is a winery from the south of Sardinia, Italy, with a strong regional identity that dates back to the founding of the coöperative in 1949. Located in Sant'Antioco, close to the archaeological site of the same name, Sardus Pater works closely with local winegrowers who cultivate their grapes on the island and the surrounding mainland.
