Pombal do Vesúvio 2021 is a red Douro wine from Quinta do Vesúvio in Portugal's Douro Superior. Its name refers to Vinha do Pombal, a vineyard on the estate where Touriga Nacional plays an important role. The 2021 blend is led by Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, with small additions of Tinta Amarela and Alicante Bouschet.The production is deliberately careful: hand-harvested grapes, manual bunch selection, gentle destemming, berry selection and fermentation in small tanks. The wine then spends 9 months in French oak barrels, but the available tasting information points to wood that stays in the background, allowing fruit, floral notes, herbs, acidity and tannin structure to define the wine.
The 2021 growing season in the Douro was cooler than several preceding years, with slower ripening and notably cool nights.
