Fresh acidity keeps the wine precise, while the finish returns to graphite, chalk and mineral notes. Product info about Chateau La Gaffeliere 2020
Château La Gaffelière 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, made as the grand vin of a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in the southern part of Saint-Émilion, between Pavie and Ausone. The estate has been connected with the Malet Roquefort family since 1705, giving this bottle a strong sense of place and continuity.The 2020 vintage is built from 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc. That cabernet franc presence is a defining part of the wine's personality, adding floral, herbal and mineral detail to the ripe merlot fruit. The grand vin comes from 22 hectares planted across limestone plateau, clay-limestone slopes and more gravelly soils at the foot of the slope.
In the cellar, the wine was vinified plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks after optical sorting, with around 32 days of vatting. Ageing took place for 14 months in barriques, 60% of them new French oak. The 2020 vintage has received very strong critical recognition, including 98/100 from Vinous and The Wine Independent, and 97/100 from James Suckling.
