Flavour notes

The aromatic and flavour profile centres on deep dark fruit: blueberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, mulberry and plum, joined by raspberry and floral violet notes. Around that core come cedar, graphite, smoke, tobacco, menthol, sage, juniper, dark chocolate and bitter almond.

On the palate it is described as medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy, layered feel. The tannins are ripe, fine-grained and silky, yet structured enough to support further bottle ageing. The finish stays fresh and defined, with a chalky or earthy impression and a long aftertaste where fruit, mineral notes and spice remain in focus.

Product info about Chateau L'evangile 2020

Château L'Evangile 2020 is the grand vin of this Pomerol estate on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The blend for this vintage is built around 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, with no Cabernet Sauvignon included in the grand vin. That gives the wine a very clear Pomerol identity: dark fruit, depth and structure, carried by the natural weight of Merlot and the aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc.

The 2020 growing season brought dry conditions, and the château chose to begin harvesting early and selectively. Young Merlot parcels were picked in time to avoid overripe, candied aromas and to protect the freshness of the fruit. Cabernet Franc was also selected with care, including parcels valued for their aromatic freshness. That context helps explain why the wine is described as concentrated and powerful, yet repeatedly noted for its balance, freshness and precision.

Ageing was approached with restraint, using a higher proportion of one-year-old barrels compared with new oak to preserve harmony. This sits within a broader period of increasing precision at the estate, with closer parcel selection, biodiversity measures and a move through organic conversion. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we present with a little extra attention: a serious Pomerol for cellaring, but one whose refinement is just as important as its structure.

The 2020 vintage received very high praise from international critics, with recurring references to dark fruit, floral notes, fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. With only the last bottles remaining, it is a compelling choice for anyone looking to add a notable Pomerol 2020 to the cellar.

About CH L'EVANGILE

Château L'Evangile is a French winery located in the famous appellation of Pomerol, part of the Bordeaux region. The estate, situated on the right bank of the Gironde river, enjoys great renown in the wine world for its elegant and deep red wines, mainly made from Merlot, often supplemented with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. Château L'Evangile has a history dating back to the 18th century and is one of the established names of Pomerol, despite the fact that the region itself has no formal classification system like other parts of Bordeaux. The winery has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) since 1990, who are known for their meticulous viticulture and respect for tradition. The vineyards of L'Evangile lie on a characteristic subsoil of clay and sand, which contributes to the rich and refined character of their wines. Year after year, Château L'Evangile is valued for its balance, depth, and ageing potential, making it an important fixture within the selection of Pomerol wines.
