Clos Fourtet 2021 is the grand vin of Clos Fourtet, a red Saint-Émilion from Bordeaux with 1er Grand Cru Classé status. It comes from an estate of around 20 hectares on clay-limestone soils on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, and that setting is central to the wine's identity.The blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The estate describes 2021 as a return to a more classical Bordeaux profile, with freshness, precision and tension taking the lead rather than sheer weight. Harvest took place from late September to mid-October after a growing season that demanded careful work in the vineyard.
In the cellar, whole uncrushed berries were vinified in small temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with manual pigeage and an extended cuvaison. Ageing lasted 14 to 18 months in the estate's underground rock cellars, mainly in barriques with a small proportion of amphora. The result is a carefully built Saint-Émilion that keeps the fresh, linear stamp of the vintage intact.
