Domaine Maurice et Anne-Marie Chapuis Aloxe-Corton 2020 is a red Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune, made from Pinot Noir in the village of Aloxe-Corton. Its character is shaped by an assemblage of three premier cru parcels: Les Vercots, Les Guîrets and Les Valozières. Together they bring different aspects of the appellation into one wine, from brown limestone-rich soils to the stonier ground of Les Valozières, close to Corton Grand Cru Les Bressandes.This is a family domaine of around 11 hectares around the Corton hill. Maurice and Anne-Marie Chapuis took over the estate in the 1980s, and today Pierre and Claire Chapuis, the sixth generation, are involved. The work behind the wine is traditional and measured: hand harvesting, careful soil work, HVE 3 certification, around 20 days of cuvaison in concrete vats, and ageing in French oak with only a small proportion of new wood so that the fruit and site remain in the foreground.
The 2020 vintage was warm, and for this wine the harvest was completed before September. Even so, the available tasting notes focus on freshness, energy and red-fruited tension rather than weight alone. Decanter, Jane Anson and The Wine Independent all highlighted the wine's lively structure, floral lift and fine tannins.
