Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2021 is the second wine of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac, a property classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855. In this 37.5 cl half-bottle, it offers a smaller-format look at the Pichon Comtesse world, still firmly rooted in the gravelly Pauillac setting of the estate.The 2021 vintage is marked by freshness and precision rather than sheer weight. A cool, wet growing season placed real pressure on the vineyard, with Cabernet Sauvignon proving particularly resilient. That comes through in the blend: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, with Cabernet providing the structure and the other varieties adding depth and detail.
Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, using gravity handling and temperature-controlled tronconic vats, followed by 12 months in barrique with 40% new oak. Ch Pichon Comtesse, fully known as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, originates from the prestigious Bordeaux region in France and belongs to the Pauillac appellation. This winery traces its origins back to the 19th century and is internationally renowned for its elegant red wines, in which cabernet sauvignon usually plays the leading role, often complemented by merlot and smaller proportions of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The vineyards are situated on the characteristic gravel soils of the left bank of the Gironde, which contributes to the structure and aging potential of the wines. Château Pichon Comtesse received the status of Deuxième Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, placing it among the second highest rank of the Medoc vineyards.
