Château La Gaffelière 2021 Demi is the half-bottle release of a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion, produced by Château La Gaffelière. The word Demi refers to the 37.5 cl bottle size, not to a separate cuvée. It is a useful format when you want to open a serious Saint-Émilion without committing to a full bottle.The wine comes from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation and this vintage is listed as 1er Grand Cru Classé in the context of the classification in place at the time. The blend is based on merlot and cabernet franc, with cabernet franc playing a clear aromatic role in 2021. That is especially relevant in a cool, demanding vintage where early October brought more favourable conditions for further ripening.
Harvesting at the estate was carried out parcel by parcel, followed by cooling of the grapes and optical sorting. Vinification also took place by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, before 14 to 16 months of ageing in French oak barrels, part of them new. The result is a Bordeaux with structure and ageing ambition, while keeping the fruit and cabernet franc expression at the centre.
