Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2021 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé with a strong sense of continuity behind it. The Despagne family has been connected with this terroir since 1812, and the estate describes the 2021 release as its 210th vintage at Grand Corbin. That gives the wine a clear identity: the grand vin of a long-established estate in the northern part of Saint-Émilion, close to Pomerol.

The blend is led by merlot, supported by a significant share of cabernet franc and a small amount of cabernet sauvignon. The aroma is driven by dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, with wild strawberry and redcurrant adding a red-fruited lift. Floral notes, including rose petal, sit alongside spice, cedar, graphite, pencil shavings, tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, mint and a light smoky accent.

On the palate it is dry, medium to full in body and still youthfully structured. The fruit feels juicy, moving between black and red fruit, while fresh acidity and fine-grained to firm tannins give the wine its tension. The finish is described as long and fresh, at times lightly saline or mineral, with lingering notes of redcurrant, blackcurrant, cedar, mint, cocoa, tobacco and liquorice.
