Château Montrose 2021 Demi is the grand vin of Château Montrose in Saint-Estèphe, presented here in a 37.5 cl half bottle. It is a smaller format, but not a smaller wine: this is a classified Bordeaux from a château listed as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification.The 2021 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. It comes from the Montrose terroir in Saint-Estèphe, on a gravel plateau overlooking the Gironde, with deep gravel soils and a clay-rich subsoil.
The vintage itself gives the wine much of its personality. A cool, demanding season required careful selection, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats and 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques, around 60% of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this demi bottle as a fine choice for anyone looking for a serious, structured Saint-Estèphe with dark fruit, freshness and long-term ageing potential.
Serve at 17-18 °C and, if possible, open or aerate it around two hours before pouring. It is well suited to richer meat dishes such as roasted lamb, beef, veal, duck or game. With the last bottles available in this format, it is a particularly attractive way to experience the 2021 Montrose.

Château Montrose is a respected winery from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the appellation of Saint-Estèphe, which is part of the famous Médoc area on the left bank of the Gironde. The estate was established in the early 19th century and gradually grew to become one of the important names in the region. Château Montrose has held the classification of Deuxième Cru Classé since 1855, meaning Second Grand Cru Classe, which indicates considerable historical reputation and quality status in the history of Bordeaux wine. The vineyard covers approximately 95 hectares and is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its location close to the river offers a favorable microclimate for grape ripening.
