Château Pavie Macquin 2021 is a serious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and the estate's grand vin, with Premier Grand Cru Classé B status. The name also carries a historical link to Albert Macquin, an important figure in Saint-Émilion after the phylloxera crisis.The 2021 vintage shows the more precise, cooler side of Pavie Macquin. Its fruit comes from the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, where clay-limestone soils, red and brown clay, and astéries limestone shape the wine's firm, chalky structure. Rather than leaning on sheer richness, this vintage is described through freshness, tension, finesse and mineral grip.
The blend is led by Merlot, with a notable share of Cabernet Franc and a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon. A 30 to 35 day maceration and maturation in French oak, half of it new, give the wine structure and depth while keeping the limestone-driven profile clearly in view.
