Flavour notes

In the glass, Chateau Le Bon Pasteur 2021 shows a deep ruby to garnet-purple colour. The aroma brings together raspberry, cassis, black plum, blackcurrant and red cherry, with pomegranate and floral accents adding lift. Behind the fruit come liquorice, cedar, graphite, vanilla, earthy nuances and gentle spice.

On the palate it is fresh and lively, medium-bodied to structured, with a soft opening and a silky texture. The tannins are finely integrated, the acidity keeps the wine focused, and the fruit moves between red and dark tones. Oak influence appears through cedar, toast, spice and at times chocolate or smoke, leading into a long, precise, mineral-edged finish.

Product info about Chateau Le Bon Pasteur 2021

Chateau Le Bon Pasteur 2021 is the grand vin of this Pomerol estate in Bordeaux. The blend for this vintage is 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, drawn from a 6.5-hectare production vineyard with vines averaging around 40 years of age on gravel-clay soils.

The 2021 vintage was not a particularly warm one. After a mild, wet start and a cooler, often humid summer, five weeks of warm, dry and sunny weather helped bring the fruit to maturity. That vintage pattern is important here: the wine is described more through freshness, aromatic clarity and fine structure than through sheer weight.

The cellar work was precise, with hand harvesting, double sorting before and after destemming, cold maceration and vinification intégrale in new French oak barriques. Ageing lasted 12 to 15 months in French oak, 70% of it new. The oak gives frame and depth, while the merlot and cabernet franc keep the fresh, lifted tone of the year.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Pomerol we like to present to customers looking for a serious Bordeaux with ageing potential. Production is stated at 13,000 bottles, and only the last bottles of this vintage remain, adding a quiet sense of scarcity to an already carefully made wine.

About CH LE BON PASTEUR

Ch Le Bon Pasteur is a French wine brand originating from the renowned Bordeaux region, more specifically from Pomerol on the right bank of the Dordogne river. This relatively small appellation is known for its elegant and often Merlot-dominated wines, to which Ch Le Bon Pasteur also belongs. The winery was led for decades by the Rolland family, with oenologist Michel Rolland as one of its most famous figures. Under their management, the estate was especially valued for its careful vinification and personal attention to quality details throughout the entire production process. The vineyard of Ch Le Bon Pasteur consists of several small plots, spread over different sections of clay and gravel, which contributes to a varied character in the final wines. The focus is generally on Merlot, often supplemented with a smaller share of Cabernet Franc, resulting in smooth, fruity wines with soft tannins and an elegant structure. Ch Le Bon Pasteur has over the years regularly received appreciation from international wine critics, partly thanks to the balance between tradition and modern insights that the estate manages to capture in its wines.
