Château La Clotte 2021 in magnum is a red Saint-Émilion from Bordeaux, shaped by a Merlot-led blend with Cabernet Franc. The 1.5 litre bottle gives it a more generous sense of occasion, the kind of format that suits a shared table and a meal that is allowed to unfold slowly.La Clotte is a very small estate of around 4 hectares in Saint-Émilion and forms part of Vignobles Vauthier, the family also behind Château Ausone. The vineyard lies close to the village on clay-limestone soils, with old vines described in several sources as averaging around fifty years or more. In the 2021 vintage, that background comes through in a style focused on freshness, perfume, red fruit and limestone tension rather than sheer weight.
The wine was vinified in stainless steel and aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, with a high proportion of new oak. Even so, the character of the year remains central: fine tannins, vivid acidity and a relatively moderate 12.5% alcohol. About CH LA CLOTTE
Ch La Clotte is a wine label originating from Saint-Émilion in the Bordeaux region of France. The estate is surrounded by well-known neighbors and covers a relatively small, family-run vineyard area. The history of the property dates back to the 19th century, with a tradition of viticulture on a limestone-rich soil that is characteristic of this region. In 2014, the estate became part of the Vauthier family, known from Château Ausone, which brought even more attention to Ch La Clotte within the wine enthusiast circuit. The plantings mainly consist of Merlot, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting primarily in elegant Saint-Émilion wines. Ch La Clotte is known for its refined style, with wines that often combine a beautiful balance of ripe fruit, soft tannins, and a mineral undertone typical for the terroir.
