It is a fine format when you want to open a serious Saint-Emilion at the table without committing to a full bottle. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this wine stands out for its origin, its classical 2021 Bordeaux profile and the fact that availability is now limited to the last bottles.Clos Fourtet comes from the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, and the 2021 is the estate's Premier Grand Cru Classé wine in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. The blend is led by Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc playing supporting roles. The estate describes 2021 as a return to a more classical Bordeaux style, with freshness, definition and structure taking precedence over sheer weight.
The winemaking reflects that sense of precision. The grapes were fermented as whole, uncrushed berries in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with manual pigeage. Maturation then took place for 14 to 18 months in the estate's underground limestone cellars, using barriques and a small proportion of amphora. It is a wine rooted in the character of Saint-Emilion, shaped by the cooler, more exacting tone of the vintage.
