Domaine Philippe Charlopin Franc De Pied Pinot Noir 2022 is a red Burgundy with a very specific point of interest: its Pinot Noir vines grow on their own roots. That is what franc de pied refers to. For this cuvée, the fruit comes from a tiny 5-ouvrée planting in Marsannay, in the lieu-dit Champs Forets, on sandy and limestone soils.Only 950 bottles were produced, so this is not a broad, anonymous regional Burgundy. It is a small-scale expression of Pinot Noir within the Bourgogne AOC, shaped more by origin and detail than by weight. The 2022 vintage is described as ripe and successful, giving a dry red wine of medium weight, with freshness, fine tannins and a silky shape. Serve it slightly cool, around 14 to 16 °C, with duck, roast poultry, veal, mushroom dishes, roasted vegetables or soft matured cheeses.
