Product info about Caro 2022
Caro 2022 is the flagship wine of Bodegas CARO in Mendoza, a project created by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite and the Nicolás Catena family. That partnership gives the wine its identity: Mendoza Malbec at the centre, shaped with Cabernet Sauvignon and a Bordeaux-inspired sense of structure.The 2022 blend is 83% Malbec and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from selected high-altitude vineyard sites in the Uco Valley, including Altamira, Gualtallary and San Pablo. The growing season is described as relatively dry, with healthy grapes and suitable ripeness, in a Mendoza setting defined by intense sunlight, altitude and clear day-night temperature differences.
After hand harvesting and careful selection, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maturation brings together French oak, barrique, foudre and concrete, adding depth without taking attention away from the dark fruit. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Argentine red we like to present when someone wants to see how Mendoza can combine power, polish and origin.
The 2022 vintage received strong reviews from Vinous, James Suckling, Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, fitting its position as the leading cuvée of the estate. Only the last bottles of this vintage remain.

About BODEGAS CARO
Bodegas Caro is a collaborative project established in 1999 in Mendoza, Argentina by the renowned Argentine winery Catena and the respected French winery Baron de Rothschild (Lafite). The name Caro is a contraction of Catena and Rothschild. Drawing from the tradition and expertise of both families, the Mendoza wine region focuses on the local grape variety Malbec, which together with Cabernet Sauvignon forms the foundation of their wines. The vineyards are located at various altitudes in Mendoza, which ensures a balanced ripening of the grapes. Production takes place in a historic 19th-century cellar in the center of Mendoza city, where both modern techniques and classic methods are applied. Bodegas Caro produces a limited, carefully composed range, of which Caro is the prestige wine; in addition, they also distinguish Amancaya and Aruma. The collaboration is reflected in the style of the wines, which combine the robust, ripe character of Argentine Malbec with the elegance and structure of Bordeaux wines. This has resulted in well-defined, internationally recognized wines that are valued for their balance and expression of origin.
