Domaine Maurice et Anne-Marie Chapuis Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru 2022 is a red Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune, made from Pinot Noir within the Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru appellation. Rather than coming from a single plot, it brings together three premier cru sites: Les Vercots, Les Guîrets and Les Valozières. The first two lie in the southern part of the village on brown soils with limestone debris, while Les Valozières is stonier and sits to the north, close to Corton Grand Cru Les Bressandes.That parcel-based approach gives this wine much of its identity. The three sites are vinified separately and assembled before bottling, allowing the final wine to reflect several parts of Aloxe-Corton rather than one isolated expression. The vines are noted as being around 45 to 50 years old, the 2022 harvest was carried out by hand, and the wine spent 18 months in oak barrels with only a modest proportion of new oak.
Domaine Chapuis is a family estate in Aloxe-Corton, working around 11 hectares of vines near the hill of Corton. Under Pierre Chapuis, cellar work has moved towards gravity handling and gentler extraction, with the aim of keeping the tannins more supple. That fits the description of this cuvée as a meeting point between power and elegance.
