Penfolds RWT Bin 798 2022 is a Barossa Valley Shiraz with a distinct role in the Penfolds range. RWT stands for Red Winemaking Trial, the internal name of a project that began in the early 1990s and later became a recognised wine in its own right. Since the 2014 vintage, it has carried the Bin 798 number.Its identity is built around single-region Barossa Shiraz and maturation in French oak. The 2022 vintage spent 14 months in French oak hogsheads, with a significant proportion of new oak. That frame brings structure and spicy depth, while the oak influence is described as present rather than overpowering.
The 2022 season in Barossa brought a moderate summer, no extreme heat above 40 °C and clear day-night temperature differences during harvest.
