La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou 2022 is the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. This 1.5-litre magnum contains the same cuvée as the regular bottle, but in a format that feels particularly well suited to the table, a special dinner or patient cellaring.The 2022 vintage gives this wine a concentrated and structured expression. Merlot takes the lead in the blend, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Behind that sits the setting of the estate itself: poor, gravelly soils, parcels influenced by the Gironde, and a precise selection approach from one of Saint-Julien's important château names.
A high proportion of new French oak adds depth and framing, yet the wine is not described by weight alone. The notes around this vintage also point to freshness, a saline-mineral line and firm tannins that still have time to come together. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a respected winery from the Bordeaux region in France, more specifically located in the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate owes its name to the striking pebbles (beaux cailloux) in the soil, a feature that contributes to the character of the wines. Château Ducru-Beaucaillou belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus Classés according to the famous 1855 classification. The estate has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century and has been managed by the Borie family since 1941. In the vineyards, mainly cabernet sauvignon is planted, supplemented with merlot, which is typical for Saint-Julien. The wines from this house are known for their complexity, elegance and the potential to age well. In addition to the grand vin, the château also produces a second wine: La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou.
