Château Fontenil 2022 is a dry red wine from Fronsac on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The estate in Saillans has been linked to Dany and Michel Rolland since the 1986 vintage, and its identity is firmly centred on Merlot. The vines grow on south-facing clay-limestone slopes overlooking the Isle and Libourne, a setting that fits the ripe, dark-fruited style described for this wine.The 2022 vintage carries a particular story. Yields were low after June hail and dry conditions, with smaller berries and less juice bringing natural concentration. In the same year, Le Défi de Fontenil was not produced, so fruit that might otherwise have gone into that cuvée became part of the regular Château Fontenil.
Work in the cellar is careful and measured: hand harvesting, grape sorting, vinification in small wooden and stainless-steel tanks, and malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. For 2022, ageing with 30% new oak is mentioned, adding depth while keeping the focus on the Merlot fruit and the Fronsac origin.

About CH FONTENIL
CH Fontenil is a French wine from the village of Saillans in the Fronsac appellation, in the Bordeaux region. The estate is run by Michel Rolland, an internationally known wine consultant, and his wife Dany. Since its establishment in 1986, CH Fontenil has worked to improve the quality of their wine, employing both traditional and modern techniques. The vineyards of the estate cover about nine hectares and are located on slopes with clay and limestone soils, which is characteristic of the Fronsac area. The wine is made mainly from Merlot, supplemented with a smaller percentage of Cabernet Franc, in accordance with local tradition. This usually results in wines known for their ripe fruit aromas, soft tannins, and a harmonious structure.
