Château Guiraud 2022 is the Grand Vin of Château Guiraud from Sauternes in Bordeaux, a white sweet wine with the historic 1855 1er Grand Cru Classé status. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to introduce as a reminder that great Sauternes is not simply about sweetness: it is about selection, concentration and freshness held in careful balance.The 2022 blend is 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. That significant Sauvignon Blanc component is an important part of Guiraud's style, bringing aromatic lift alongside the depth and botrytis richness of Sémillon. Harvest took place in three selective passes, beginning with a mid-September selection of passerillage-concentrated grapes, followed by two full botrytis selections in October.
In the cellar, the wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts, largely in new French oak barrels, then aged for around 18 months in barriques. Château Guiraud is organically certified, with organic viticulture forming part of the estate's direction since the 1990s.
The 2022 vintage has attracted strong critical attention and, with only the final bottles remaining, it has the feel of a release to consider thoughtfully. Enjoyed young, it highlights fruit, flowers and fresh botrytis character; with further bottle age, it can move toward more honeyed, spiced Sauternes complexity.
