Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2018 is a white Mosel Riesling from Germany, grown in the renowned Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard near the village of Wehlen. It is made in the classic off-dry Kabinett style: low in alcohol, naturally sweet, but held together by the bright acidity that gives this type of Mosel wine its energy.Its origin is central to its identity. The grapes come from steep slopes of blue Devonian slate, from ungrafted Riesling vines with an average age of around 60 years. They were selectively hand-harvested and fermented cool in a combination of stainless steel and traditional Fuder casks. The result is a wine that stays light on its feet while carrying real precision and Mosel tension.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we place among the more refined German Rieslings: expressive, fresh, delicately sweet and made for more than just early drinking. The 2018 vintage received strong reviews from James Suckling, Falstaff, Wine Enthusiast and Mosel Fine Wines, and it is also described as a wine with further bottle ageing potential. With only the last bottles remaining, it is becoming less easy to find.
Serve it well chilled, around 8 to 10 °C. Its mix of sweetness, acidity and modest alcohol works particularly well with gently spiced Asian dishes, citrus-dressed salads, fresh goat cheese with honey, well-seasoned pork chop or slowly cooked chicken.

Dr. Loosen is a German wine producer from the Mosel region, an area that is internationally recognized for its steep vineyards and the production of elegant Riesling wines. The family business is led by Ernst Loosen, who has been at the helm since the 1980s and is dedicated to highlighting the unique characteristics of the various vineyards owned by the estate. The vineyards of Dr. Loosen belong to some of the oldest cultivated plots in the region and feature vines that in certain cases are older than 60 years.
