Château de Rayne Vigneau 2022 is a classic Sauternes in the true sense: a white sweet wine from Bordeaux, produced by the Premier Grand Cru Classé estate in Bommes. This is the château's main wine, not the dry white, and it carries the character of a serious blanc liquoreux shaped by noble rot, careful selection and concentration.The 2022 blend is led by Sémillon, with Sauvignon Blanc and a small proportion of Muscadelle. The grapes come from the estate's own vineyards on a ridge above the Sauternes appellation, from vines with an average age of around 40 years. Harvesting is done by hand in several selective passes, so that only grapes affected at the right stage by Botrytis cinerea are picked.
Vinification takes place in barriques, followed by 18 months of ageing in French oak, around 30% of it new. The result sits in the rich, sweet world of Sauternes, but with the freshness and acidity needed to keep that sweetness lively. Château de Rayne Vigneau is a historic wine producer from the Sauternes appellation in the Bordeaux region, France. The estate is located in the commune of Bommes and owes its name to its former owner, the marquis de Rayne, who further developed the domaine in the 19th century.
