Haut-Carles 2022 is the upper cuvée from Château de Carles in Fronsac, on Bordeaux's right bank. For this vintage, the wine is listed as 100% merlot, selected from parcels planted on clay and clay-limestone soils. That sets the tone clearly: a concentrated Fronsac with ripe dark fruit, depth and a firm sense of structure.The estate works under HVE3-certified responsible viticulture, with hand harvesting and careful grape selection after picking. In the cellar, the same attention continues through parcel-by-parcel vinification, gravity handling and 16 to 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques, half of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a serious, age-worthy Bordeaux rather than a bottle to rush.
The 2022 vintage has also attracted notable recognition, including two stars from Guide Hachette and strong scores from several specialist critics. What matters most, though, is the style behind those mentions: a full, merlot-driven Fronsac where the oak influence is present but integrated, and where the tannins give the wine the frame it needs for further bottle development.
Serve it around 16 to 17 °C with richer meat dishes, game, mushrooms, truffle preparations or foie gras.
